LT80 Help

Hey all...
It's been a while since I've been here. Long story but after a lot of searching, I found my way back.
I bought my younger son a LT80 today to replace his Kazuma which he's outgrowing. I'm pretty sure it's a 1993...so says the guy. It's in good shape; no cracks, no oil leaks. The last owner had removed the oil injection with a kit from "Midwest Mini". I have the paperwork on it.
Here's the thing. It's hard to start. The guy got it running while I was there. It ran and idled. He was really honest about it being a PITA about starting. I got it home and it fired up again. I ran it down our lane and back and it did fine. Came back and idled for a few then stalled. Now it doesn't want to start again. I didn't try for a long time, just a few minutes. It has spark and fuel. I'm a 4 stroke guy so, 2 strokes will be a learning experience for me. Any suggestions from the ground up would be appreciated.
The other issue is, is the oil injection system that bad on these? I have all the parts. The guy said it worked fine, he just heard they go bad and tried to head it off at the pass. I hate mixing fuel but, if it's better off like this, I'll leave it alone.
