Does any one know what is different between the '85-'86 quadracer 250 cylinders? The reason I am asking is because LA Sleeve lists a sleeve for the '85 model and a different one for the '86 model. I am in need of a sleeve and I don't what year cylinder I have, because I bought it used (I always thought they were the same). My guess is that it would be a slight difference in porting because the 86 had a 34mm carb vs. the 32mm on the 85 and that change may have been the result of a porting change. Does anyone have specs or a way of identifying between the two.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Your are exactly right, the porting was changed SLIGHTLY between the 2 years. There is no way to visually tell the 2 apart that I know of. I do have a suzuki factory manual that lists the port sizes. The largest change came in the width of the exhuast port. It was increased from 44mm (in 85) to 48 mm (86). Most of the other port size changes are around .5mm - 2 mm. Port timing is also slightly changed.

Are you a machinist experienced in replacing sleaves yourself? If not, then you shouldn't need to find out the exact year. Simply send the cylinder to a reputable machinist along with the info you DO have. If the machinist can't discern the year of the cylinder you have sent him, then you don't want him to work on it anyway! Be sure to send the cylinder to a place that specializes in small two stroke motors (atv's, dirt bikes, snowmobiles) and you shouldn't have any problems.
