1988 Quadsport 230 (Keep or upgrade to a 400?)

It was a good time on Saturday!
The 230 ran fine, with only a very small amount of blue smoke. A lot less than what I was expecting.
Only a few negatives.
1. The front shocks are completely toast, but I knew this. I did some back to back runs/jumps with the 230 vs the 400, and there is a huge differenct in smoothness. I know it's not fair to compare an '88 bike to an '09, but I think (hope) most of this can be addressed with a new set of shocks.
2. The clutch is bad and will need to be replaced. I kind of suspected this would be an issue, but it's slipping more than I anticipated. This one also concerns me because I remember the last time I had to change the clutch. We had to grind some material away from the clutch basket and then double stack one of the metal plates to make up for the lost material in the clutch basket. Is there a particular brand of clutch that I should look for?
3. Twice I had to use starter fluid to start it. This was typically after it sat for a while (more than an hour). That was two times out of about 20 stops/starts. Any ideas on what this might be?

Well, I'm looking to get a new toy and need to open some space. Would anyone here be interested in this?
You can see what I've done to it, and after riding it a little, I have a few more things that it needs.
- clutch
- grips
- chain/sprockets
- the carb needs to be tuned for the intake changes that I made.
