Default 82 alt 125 compression or valve problem!!!!

whats up guys i wasnt sure where to post this since its a three wheeler but i hear most of the alt's are pretty much the same so heres my problem. so i picked an old 82 suzuki alt 125 three wheeler. just needed a carb cleanin and a primer for the carb and it ran great. so one day i had a buddy come over and try to tune it up a little bit well i went to work and while i was gone he thaught would adjust the timing chain for me. well he took off the timing chain tentioner and screwed up the timing on it because he really didnt know what he was doing. so i figured out what i had to do to fix it but after i got it fixed and all the clicking gone i lost a ton of compression and it doesnt sound like its even tryin to start. what i'm wondering is besides a gasket what else would cause a compression problem and what would be the first thing i should do to try to fix it. if anybody can help me out i would greatly appreciate it. thanx alot guys.

it's prolly your vaulve's what happens if you totally choke off the carbarator. IE put you hand over it.

well here is the issue that i'm having, if i choke off the carb with my hand the engine starts and will will running.

i'm in the process of totally rebuilding my LT230 so after i found that i was about 60 lbs of compression lower then the book said i pulled the motor out.

when i took the valvue head of the engine block i saw how dirty and cruded up it was. i'm not sure if you can clean the valvues with out takeing that pice off, but to be honest i'm no kind of mechnic at all and it was very easy to get to.

you can pull that part of the motor with taking the motor out of the frame.

i'm not sure if chokeing it will do anything for the compression but if you are having trouble keeping the engine running it's most likely the valvues.

my problem is that before the timing chain adjuster was taken off it was starting and running great. now that i put the adjuster back on i've lost alot of compression and i cant get it to start at all. so i'm trying to figure out what would have caused this from only removing the timing chain adjuster.

Pull the head off and put in new valves. The only reason that you would loose compression with an adjuster is if the valves wacked the piston.

A leakdown will tell you for sure.

No problem.

When you get the head off pour some solvent in the ports and see if the valves leak. I bet one or both leak like a sieve.

There is no quad that I know of that you have to pull the engine to adjust the valves.
You should really try to adjust the valves on my twin KFX. Now that's a real beoch.
