Default 87 lt230eh loss of power

hello new to this forum. i got this bike from a friend it has been sitting for a couple of years. i had it running great a couple of days ago but now not so good. here is what is happening i can get it to start (rough idle) and idle up, but when i put it in gear no power at all then stalls out. after it stalls it wil not fire back for about 20 minutes or so. i tried to adjust the carb and seems to have no affect on the performance. i cleaned the carb and all the ports nothing is blocked, new spark plug, checked spark (good), ohm tested ignition coil (good) not really sure what else to do or what is causing it to do this any information or input would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the forums.
You may want to make sure the pipe is not plugged.
I'd also check the gas tank vent.
If it can't get in or get out....

Check your compression. It may have enough to run but not enough under a load.

ok so heres the new thing, i let the bike sit for a couple of days out of frustration. and this morning i went to start it and it started right up so i let it warm up. after a few minutes i decided to test ride it and it had power and everything ran great (except knocking noise in engine) but after a few minutes of riding it started doing the same thing (loosing power) and could hardley keep it running. i also noticed that the engine seemed like it was getting really hot and the exhaust was red hot. any more ideas?!?!?!?!?!?

i dont think its a gas problem cause when it dies it will not start back up with a squirt of starter fluid

Hot exhaust pipe sounds like It's running rich on fuel?

Compression should be at least 90.
