Does the new float have a metal tab of plastic?
I doubt there is a adjustment.
I hold the carb and blow thru the fuel supply tube and work the float to see if it shuts the airflow off.
I'd pay special attention to the needle and seat area.

After working on them for 19 years, I just got a LT80 book. It came with a machine I just bought....
