Default LT80 common problems to look for

I am looking for a LT80 for my 4 kids. Every LT80 that i have looked at does not have a battery that works and does not have a pull starter on them. Is there a known problem with a Stator or something with these? Also are they any other things i should be looking at before i put down the cash on one? I just looked at a prestine 2001, but the battery would only click the relay and not start. We took out a battery from a diesel tractor with 800 CCA and used jumper cables to try to start it and same deal. Also the front brake cables would not return to their start position so the lever stayed partially pulled in and pushing it out again did not return the cables to the starting position. This one had hardly any rust on onlything and was original, no repainting, etc. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

The bushings in the starter wear out. Can replace starter or make new bushings. Buy the time starter wears out could be looking at crankshaft bearings, seals, piston, and variable drive problems. If you do the work yourself still a lot of money. Maybe consider getting your kids a new Honda, good resale value.

I have one for sale.
04 KFX80 (LT80)
I just rebuilt the complete motor. New piston/bore/bearings/seals
Worked on the brakes, they work great!
Plastic in great shape.
Tires 40-50%.

To answer,
The lil battery's just don't seem to last. Course, if ppl would use a battery tender when the machine sits for a long time I don't think there would be a problem. Then there is the issue of a $25 battery or a $50 battery.
The carb will get some goo in it, ppl will crank and crank till the starter is ruined.
That's my expierience with them.
The stators sem to last forever.

Did you make a choice? I highly recommend the LT 80, when we go to the dunes we have sometimes 20 or 30 quads in camp, most of the smaller quads are represented. Nothing beats my kid's 80, and that was when it was basically stock. The Yamaha and Polaris models I've seen were all 4 stroke so there is no way they are going to keep up.

I bought my oldest daughter a Suzuki LT 50 back in 1985, and I bought my second daughter a 2002 LT 80 about 4 years ago. Both quads are awesome, I'm working through some issues with the 80 right now because of a used engine I bought because of an accident she was in... anyway, I highly recommend the two-stroke Suzukis... that little LT50 can still haul my 210 lb carcass around

Default Lt80

thanks for the response, i did make a decision, and i found a 4x4 quad that was less then the lt80 and in better shape and will revisit the LT80 at a later date. Sounds like i can't go wrong with a solit LT80.

How old are your kids? I had a lt160 for my first and that thing was a blast. Ran great even after my abuse....

I thought this was going to get ugly.
I was expecting a answer of 5-6-7-8 and I got them a 100000cc big azz death machine..LMAO
They are about out of the range for a LT80/90cc machines.

I'd think I'd be looking for::
Kymco Mongoose, 250EX, 300EX, etc. ie: a 250cc class machine.

My 9 year old daughter drives her cousins' trx250 w/ the shaft drive, and she loves it. Of course we need to work on the basics of shifting, she'll just leave it in 2nd or 3rd.. no bueno. Still, it's not the power she likes, I think its just a couple more inches of suspension travel... when she gets the clutch thing down we'll probably look at a Raptor 250, in a couple years
