I just picked up a fairly clean 2000 LT80 on a power equipment trade deal. It needs a new battery, CDI and plastic. This will be a neat little machine for my 5 year old nephew until he gets a little older for a bigger machine.

Hey, those little 80s really go, it should be good for your nephew for more than just a little while. I'll probably hook up a hitch on my kid's 80 so I can use it to tow a small trailer around our 3 acres when she's grown out of it. Congrats!

Thanks LT80 Pilot!

I'm also trying to get my hands on a second LT80 (2004 model) that needs a starter and rear plastics. I'm hoping to pick this machine up for next to nothing, but will see

"...next to nothing..." ...sounds like you can't go wrong with that!

He's asking $250.00 but I can probably walk away with it for $150.00. My goal is to fix it for my nephew.

Default LT80 common problems

I just looked at a prestine 2001, but the battery would only click the relay and not start. We took out a battery from a diesel tractor with 800 CCA and used jumper cables to try to start it and same deal. Also the front brake cables would not return to their start position so the lever stayed partially pulled in and pushing it out again did not return the cables to the starting position. This one had hardly any rust on onlything and was original, no repainting, etc. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
I can tell you what I've found so far on my '92 LT80 that's boggled my mind that maybe you'll be interested in....
Crappy petcock (with no off....thanks suzuki) kept leaking into the carb and would have trouble starting.
Fat Bodies that ride around on these long enough will wear out the spindles in the front. (first one I bought had gnarly wear marks on the top of the shafts)
Bought mine with a "Starter Problem", but it had a pull-start so I was cool with it. Instaled a Maier headlight kit for it and it wouldn't work, traced it back to the main wire going into the fuse next to the battery under the seat. it was so loose at the connection, when I wiggled it once it snapped off. After soldering that back into place, the starter worked every time.
These little quads can add up to a lot of money. Before you buy one, always pop the seat and take her around the block. Tires can add up. Be Picky!
