suzuki z400 LE or Base Yamaha YFZ450
#1
Hello everybody. Im new here and am about to buy my first quad this week. Im 26 yrs. Ive always wanted one since i was a teen but my dad would never let me get one.
So i have narrowed it down to either the z400 or yfz ( the base one) The z400 is $7099 and the yfz is $6700. Ok i know they are not the same class of atv. Im not planning on racing, just want to trail ride and go up steep hills. I have ridden the 400ex and that will at times struggle up long steep hills. The think with the yfz is that i know its fast but this paticular model is not fuel injected and the shocks are very very basic. Its just plain. Im leaning twards the z400 LE. especailly with the 0% interest and $600 coupon at the suzuki website. So what do you guys think is the z400 sufficient? Thanks!

FYI: if you would take the time to look around, I feel that there are WAY better deals out there.
Dealers are begging to get machines off the floor.
I've heard of a brand new 400ex selling for $3200.
7k is way too much for a Z400 (altho they are a very good machine).
I won't be having a YFZ in my garage any time soon. I personally don't see what ppl see in the yamahahas.
How about a nice dependable TRX450R??
Try quadzone.com Look in their classifieds. They have tons of built up machines for thousands less than your looking to spend.
Good luck.

Most people go through dealerships when in need of financing. I'm not going to get brand biased here. But, i will defend my yamahahas. I've got an '04 with many, many hours riding. I would not trade it for anything. No major issue's at all. It fit's me and I much prefer it in hill shoots over a Honda. The Honda's front ends pull up to easy for my liking but, they are good machine's.
Between the two you listed it's close. The yfz will have noticeably more power and TONS of potential in aftermarket upgrades. The Zuki will have a little better low end torque although less than an EX. YFZ's like to rev to make there power. That's part of the fun for me. With a good exhaust and correct jetting theres nothing I (well, it) can't climb.
As for the Fuel injection I wouldn't worry much. I live in OK where we get triple digit heat in summer and single digit winters. No issues with the carb as long as turn gas off when she sits. I haven't even had to clean it but, once in 3 years.
As for shocks "basic" shocks on a 450 are all but, basic. They are made by KYB and are VERY good shocks. On a different level than other stockers. There are upgrades every couple of years to them. I recently had to switch out mine. The stock from '04 were better shocks than last years Stage I elka's I replaced them with. I haven't looked at the z400 shocks but, I'll bet the YFZ's are much, much better shocks.

yeah i though it was overpriced to. After everything the Z400 was going to come out to $8000 :0
I dont know about that. I was going to see if they would lower it to $7000 even,. I ve also been looking at craigslist. But most of the guys that i was about to seal deals with, in the last minuet said "oh i cant find the title". Im waiting for one dude that is getting his title under his name so he can sell it. So this is why i started looking at the dealers. Im still looking though. So you think i should buy used then??? ANOTHER THING, ALL THE ATV PLACES HAVE CLOSED DOWN HERE!!! back in the day there used to be many. Now there's only ONE! and another rinky dinky place that sells used ones. But those to are overpriced, might as well buy new.
