Default Do they still make an ATV like .... ?

My father-in-law has a Suzuki 250 4-wheeler. It is a utility machine that he uses on his farm. I think it is a quad runner, and am pretty sure he got it around 2001. This machine has some unique features that he really likes. It has a high-low range, and it has an independent rear suspension. Another unique feature is that the engine sits way towards the rear; if you look directly under the rider, there is not much there. He also enjoys having an odometer. He's about got this one about wore out (18,000 miles!), and would like to get another one like it. If you are familiar with the ATV that I am describing, do you know if Suzuki makes a modern day equivalent? If not, when was the last year that they were made? If not Suzuki, what would be the best equivalent from another manufacturer?

We've seen the 2012 250 Ozark, but it definitely does not seem to be of the same lineage.

Thanks in advance for the help.

JD

That is an old design, from the mid 80s up to the newer style that started coming out in the late 90s. The set back engine also used the oil as the differential lube, the axle actually came out of the rear part of the engine/transmission, thats why it was set up so far back, no drive shaft or chain to worry about. You may find one on eBay or Craigs List, but you wont see anything like that in production, even from the Chinese clone models. It was a simple, rugged design, no wonder he likes it so much ! good luck finding his replacement, have you considered a ground up rebuild? freshen up the motor, replace suspension bushings and bearings, you may be able to ressurect the old boy for a few more years of service !!

Yep, X2. There isn't anything quite like that anymore. The closest thing I can think of sizewise is the Yamaha Grizzly 400. I think the Grizzly 400 with IRS is about as small as the makers produce a quad with 4wd, IRS, and Hi/Lo. Maybe someone else can chime in?
