Default Carb question

The 1985 LT250EF runs a VM24SS carb. The question is what if any other carbs can I put on it?

Anything up to a 28mm. The 230 and 250 sport models came with 26mm. I wouldn't use a CV carb (the ones with the rubber diaphragm on top). What's wrong with the 24mm carb? The good thing about smaller carbs is they're easy to tune.

Oh I see your point. Well, the 220 Bayou has a 24mm carb that's pretty simple and they made a lot of them. The 230 quadsports have 26mm carbs that work pretty well, but mine seems to not like to climb very steep hills without either flooding or running dry (not sure). Its hardly ever an issue. Only when I'm having trouble making it up a hill (like climbing out of a ditch or something) and I'm sitting at an incline for a while it just dies. It won't start again till I roll it back flat. Its always been that way on 2 different quads over 5 yrs. No float adjustment seems to make a difference, so I assume its in the carb design somehow. But, like I said, its hardly ever an issue.

Unless you're building something that's going to see high rpms a lot, I'd get the 24mm bayou carb. The late model honda 250ex's have 22mm carbs! I swear the slide looks like a AA battery lol. The small carb doesn't hold it back too much... it will go a good 55 mph. But the bayou carb will be well supported in parts, easy to tune, and has a cable choke so make sure you get the choke cable with the carb. Its nice to not have to reach under the tank fumbling around for a choke lever.

If you need any measurements, let me know. I have both carbs.
