king quad -smokes only sometime
#1
I have a question for some of you experts. I just recently purchased 05 KQ 700 w/5000 miles. runs very good. One problem. when u start engine, if it starts on first try, it runs perfectly. no smoke or problems. However, if you fail to start on first try and u try, and try, and try to start while cracking throttle each time , then on 5-6-7 try , it starts, blue white exh smoke pours out muffler til it warms up m, then no more smoke?? why does it smoke so on the delayed start when no smoke at all on the 'perfect starts'? tks to all.

Absolutely burning off the excess fuel.
As an example...the Ford V10 from years '99-'04 are famous for that. If you start it...and do not let it warm a little...and then just shut it off...the very next time you start it...you'll see a puff of white/bluish smoke out the pipe.
My only concern with your King 700...is why does it take so long to fire up? Might want to have a look at your spark plug. Check to see if it is fouled...and the gap is set properly.
Good luck...

Now that 'glenlivet ' advised me against cracking throttle at startup, it starts right up, no smoke. 90% of the times it will start right up, if throttle left alone. once in a while, it is contrary. I replaced plug and that helped. I was considering 'top end' job. how do I tell if it really needs one? compression test? haven't done that yet. tks to all.
