thanks for the info. guess ill have to play around with it and try loosening it off a 1/2 turn or so at a time and see what happens. Got all the fresh oil and filters so hopefully that helps.

When you loosen it, you'll see the play I'm talking about.
I think SF grade oil, which was the newest standard in 1986, is the only car oil that works ok with wet clutches. Oil today is likely to be SL and have additives which are too slippery for the clutch. Once these additives get on the clutch, you can't get them off except taking it apart and cleaning with solvent. They may wear off eventually, but it seems if the additives cause the clutch to slip, you probably need a new one anyway.

Turns out it was the frozen brakes causing the slipping in 3rd or higher. Took it out for a rip before the oil change and did not slip at all. Had it pinned and now it will actually pull the fronts up.
