Default Need Buy Advice

Have the opportunity at a 2006 Vinson, 2400 miles, auto.

One owner, looks to be in great shape. Price is $3100. Seems resonable to me.

Any thoughts? What do I need to look for when I go see it?

Thanks!

Those a generally very good machines. Just look at overall condition, how it looks, how it starts and runs. Too many items to list here...how to check everything that is Hopefully you are familiar with ATVs and can make a good call on it's condtion.

$3100 is a reasonable price though I would hope they would be a bit flexible. Around here, $2500-$2800 would be a more reasonable amount to expect if selling. There should be a little wiggle room. If it has any extras like a winch or aftermarket wheels and tires, that definitely adds value and most likely are items most people would want to add anyway. Perhaps ask about any recent maintenance like when oil was last changed of if the belt has been replaced or not. A Vinson is one of the atvs I seriously looked at before I bought my Grizzly and would have been happy to have found one. There was one about 2 hours away on Craigslist but I was unable to contact the seller, I assume it had already been sold by the time I saw it. I kinda like that it did not have independent rear suspension. I feel that a solid rear axle is tougher and more durable than having cv shafts and irs. Irs gives a more plush ride but cv shafts will eventually fail on any irs machine as I have experience with that recently myself.

No maintenance issues and belt has never been replaced. He told me he has changed the oil in it twice since he has owned it.

The Vinson was the most powerful and sportiest 500cc machine anyone made until Can-Am put a 500 v-twin in the Outlander. Its basically about equal to the Grizzly 550 in power too. The belt is probably good for a while longer. I replaced the one on my Grizzly at about 3000 miles, not sure what the average belt life is for a Vinson. Generally the belt will start slipping when it gets worn out and the quad will feel like its losing power.

went and test drove last night. The steering was really tough! It took a lot of strength to turn. Rode smooth and everything else looked fine.

Thoughts?

Was it in 4WD? That and larger than stock tires can make slow riding turning kind of difficult.
