50 tank may be different than the 80,but shows those spinnable nuts you guys were talking about on this LT50 tank.. Sucks anyway you look at. Reminds me of the drain bolt inserts in the plastic oil tanks on the Sportsman 500. They'd do the same thing.

Yeah, I also think you're SOL on the tank. It it were me, and before I spent the money on a used ebay tank, I would remove the tank, fill it with water to remove any fuel. Then, I would try my best to grind off the petcock with my small 90 degree grinder with a thin wheel trying not to grind the tank material. "IF" I were successful, I would buy a non vacuum petcock with on/off/res to replace it. I have no experience with the 80, I just bought it a month ago, I'm sure after a year, he will get to the point where I may consider modding it I plan to surprise him with it labor day weekend. I will def keep you up to date if/when the time comes. Good luck with the tank.
