Default Loud Clunk/grind on shifting

While shutting from Neutral to any gear or Revers to High or Low and back there is a bit of a Grind and clunk, is this normal, (yes I make a full stop) it seems the idle is high some times and if lowered it would not be so bad.
just down want to mess this thing up, need it for plowing my big drive way
thanks

Not sure which ATV you have but I'm going to assume its an auto, with a belt drive?.....let it warm up fully, then reduce your idle rpm's as you mentioned. ... This is often the cause of "grinding" when changing from forward to reverse...etc.

Have you cleaned the air filter? Possibly choking it thus raising rpm's a lil.
How about a good carb cleaning?

Sorry I have a KVF700 Auto, will check the air filter and try to find how to lower the RPM's, thanks

Also, make sure you turn your choke off before you put it in gear. That raises your idle so your engine can warm up but makes it hard to shift out of neutral.

it seems the idle gets higher after driving (snow plowing) it for a while (10 minutes or so), so maybe I have to turn the idle down after a bit of use?, Choke is off

Adjust your idle with the machine at operating temp.....anything below operating temp should idle higher with the choke.
