Quadzilla?

87's had a six-stud head and is known for blowin' head gaskets, but the 88's used a new seven-stud head which took care of that problem. Also, the 88 jug will fit right on an 87 motor, so there's an easy fix. I'm lookin' for an 88 jug myself. Other than being a helluva lot faster than a banshee, the power band on the 500 seems to be constant instead of all the power coming on all at once. I can lug mine in 3rd to where it seems like it's gonna stall, blip the throttle and stand it right up...... I think a banshee handles better, though. Oh, don't quote me on this, but my 87 has a 6-speed, an I thimk 88's and on only used 5 speeds....

Good luck ex_master. I love my quadzilla. It is super strong. If you get one you will have to change your riding style. My wife has a 400 EX and I don't like to ride it. I look like a doofus riding it because it rides nothing like my 500. If you don't like it, I'm sure you won't have any trouble finding someone to take it off your hands. And if you see someone that tries to sell you a 87 with 6 gears, tell him to take a hike. All of the 500s were 5-speeds.
By the way, I use the 87 cylinder and head without a problem.
