Blew the motor in my 2008 King Quad Axi 450. Looking for used parts but none around in my area. So I was wondering, could I look at Arctic Cat 450 for parts? Is it the same motor?

 

Arctic Cat built some motors under license from Suzuki, but I'm not sure about a 450. The newer 443 cc Cats are Kymcos. Perhaps you could use an Arctic Cat 400 or 500, probably would work. I just sold a 2001 AC 500 with 9,000 miles, a great motor. Mine was manual shift, but they also offered Auto.

 

Fairly sure the 450 motor was a new design when it came out. It isn't a small bore version of the Vinson engine, though I think the 500KQ is a big bore version of the 450. Like Hydrex wrote Arctic cat were, by this time, going towards Kymco motors rather than Suzuki. There should be a few 450/500KQ motors about, I've never known one give trouble, so they will not disappear from breakers quickly.

 

Some of Arctic Cat's decisions over the years have baffled me. I'll put the 400 Suzuki motor in my 2002 Cat up against any of the Kymco motors. That thing is tough as a bag of hammers! I sold my AC 500 with 9,000 miles, same deal, great motors. When I change oil at 500 miles, it comes out looking almost as good as new.

 

I'm sure the switch to the Kymco engines was a cost saving measure. They seem to be solid engines though time will tell if they are as good as the older Suzuki engines. People seem to think because the engines are Kymco, they're of lesser quality. I don't really think that's true.
