But how would that create all that excessive heat? Plus he does say it "stuck solid"...

If things aren't firing at the correct time, possibly..??
I watched the video again. sure sounds like it's getting tight.

I'd suggest an OEM piston/rings at the correct clearances and see where we're at...if still hot then maybe it's radically advanced timing or something...
