OVERATED?
''WOW''
You pulled me out from the mud ONE TIME in the 3 or so yrs we been riding and now im overated? Please tell our listening forum users how many times I'VE pulled out your KQ?I'd say im like ahead maybe 15-1.I pulled your butt out of the mud 10 times in your first yr of ownership!
To your credit,at least your not afraid of getting the KQ dirty, you will at least try and make it out of the mud holes, most times you do.It must be a GREAT feeling knowing some ''OVERATED'' belt driven ATV is there to help you when you cant get out and than watch that SAME overated quad go thru the same mud hole he just pulled you out of?

Now you know the quad is only as good as the tires. Tit for tat, a true compairson could only be done between quads with the same tires. True you prob did pull him out from time to time, but isnt he running the stock crappy tires still? I put a set of vamp on my king in 2wd and ill put it against most machines with stock tires while they use 4wd. Since ive gotten the vamps i hardly use the 4wd anymore. So if your gonna compaire your quads then lets get on a level playing field then. Rob

robh,
yes,the quad is only as good as the tires in MUD.Chuck has since bought new 589s for the rear and 489s for the front of the KQ.I like his 589s alot,he should of done the same for the fronts. If I remember correctly,he said the 589s were not available for the front.
My bro Johns 97 KQ has Vampires on it also. You are 100% right, what a differance that quad now is in the mud.But we still have a element some seem to forget?Wheel speed is also an important factor when the mud gets REAL bad.The KQ w/a good set of mud tires usually does supply a ample enough amount of wheel speed to sucessfully conquer most mudholes, but in the worst of them,I'd challenge that statement.Bad sandy/steep/twisty/hills?I dont think the tires will help out a KQ a whole lot in this type of terrain because of the lack of wheel speed and the smaller engine.
Your right about the mud and good tires, they make a HUGE differance,
Bill

Oh Bill that would be great. When we're in the country my daughter rides mine more than I do. She would love the pink! But man I'll tell you that would cost Suzuki a lot of money. You see since the KQ came out in what 89-90 (I really have no "knowledge" of when they first were made), there are so many of them still running that a recall would be expensive. Now with Polaris on the other hand it would be easy since most of their products 5 years and older aren't running anymore. You just don't see to many old Polaris' on the trails. Probably a reason for that. But I do know where they all are, while test riding the Honda 400es, Bayou 400 and the Polaris Sportsman 335 and 500 I found them. They were all piled up behind the dealer being used for parts. They should of at least covered them up in respect.
Huh, I just sold my Alt-185 a couple years ago(still running today) and my brother in law is riding an 86' LT230E. I'm also tuning up his 86' TRX-125 for his kids. Actually the tune up only requires a new spark plug, oil change, air filter and a little lube on the chain.
I have a slogan for Polaris, "The best Polaris is a new* Polaris."

Now don't go and get all mad and smart back to me because you wouldn't want to be like one of us Queen Quad riders who can't take someone knocking our underpowered "little" pink quad.
Sorry Gentlemen....I couldn't contain myself any longer.
And as far as this 280cc hill climbing thing..Bills exactly right. A 500cc engine which is 56% bigger than a 280cc engine should have more power. Period. Forget it!! The KQ should be compared(pardon me if I'm flattering myself) to a TRX-300 or Kawasaki Bayou or whatever mid size quad Yamaha has. I'm pretty sure a big block Camaro will out run a stock Monte Carlo. Pretty soon the 400 cc and the 500cc will be Queens(better buy your paint when it's on sale) with the 600cc and now the Kawa 650cc twin here. It's only a matter of time before the 700cc, 800cc, 1000cc engines appear in a quad. Then of course the 650's will be queens. So you'll need to sell your Polaris before it ends up at the dealer graveyard and upgrade to a new model. Then do it again in a couple years.....I'll still be riding my solid, pretty pink QQ. Oops it's almost May, time to change the oil and spark plug. I almost forget you have to do maintance on the QQ.
Kind Regards,
Rob

robnhouston,
have to give ya that. There really aint that many older Polaris ATVs running the trails.Maybe they are in the junk yards,I dont know? What I do know is I really enjoy my 00 Xplorer alot and thats all that really counts to me.So you are probably right, the best Polaris could be a newer one.I see alot of newer ones on the trails.
And I certainly am not mad at you,my post was all in FUN and I dont take yours as nothing more either, though I do find mine alot more funnier/humerous.[Im still -lol-]
I cant paint mine pink.Suzuki would more than likely sue me,since they now hold the the legal documents to classify every PRE 2002 KQ a ''Queen Quad''.
Now with the Queens BEEFIER BROTHER the 2002 500cc KING,it is only fitting to leave that title[QUEEN QUAD] to who it really belongs to.You know, the 300cc!
[I have to stop,im laughing to HARD]

Oh Bill come up with some new material will you. I will say again your right about the Queen. I mean you've been married long enough to know who really rules your domain. Of course...your Queen. I dearly apprieciate my better half. You know behind every man there is a woman.
I also did a little more research this morning. I went over to the Polaris forum and you know what? Of the first few posts, and the ones with many replies I didn't see one post you made. Hmmm, I'm sure you could have helped the sp500 owner who doesn't know where hiw AWD fuse is. You have one of those? Seems like a pretty important thing to know if your out on the trail. And another guy put some bigger tires and a White spring on his quad and it "shredded" his belt. What belt? How do tires get up around your waste? Must be his riding habits. And then of course there is the guy who thinks DW writers are on drugs because in the 250 class they rated the Polaris 250 last (behind a Suzuki and Cat). You know what? This was an apples to apples comparison(flatter). I'm sure if they rated the Polaris #1 he would have said that DW is the best mag ever!!! Why don't you ever respond over there.
I'm sure you could have helped all the folks. Remember because you've posted more than everyone else you know more and people respect you(I'm paraphrasing your words, remember?). Did they run you off over there? Are you having trouble with your peers? I'm sure you know where your fuse is.
And I don't agree with your earlier comment about a former owner being the best to comment on something. Do you think a Ford owner would have good things about the Chevy he use to own? If he did then he might think he made a wrong decision by buying the Ford. By boldly bashing the Chevy he tries to cover up his feeling that he may have made a mistake. To bad. Did you make a mistake Bill? Do you miss you QQ? Is that why you hand over here all the time?
This is fun Bill. Please reply back!!!
Be sure to take that fuse with you when you ride. You might need it. An I'm sure you'll find the section of the ride where all the 125cc quads are. You know you can really strut your stuff against those babies being on your 400 and all.
LOL and having a ball,
Rob
Bill your turn poke, poke

MY MY MY ,
How sensitive little Robby is this morning!Did he have a bad day at work?Maybe problems elsewhere? His posts seem a little off character for just poking fun at me.Oh well,he can allways come in here and see if he can get to me?
Now as far as me responding to the other problems in the Polaris Forums,I do the best I can.I unfortunately dont have the answer to every question, and besides,im having so damn much fun with you right now,im not having enough time to visit my home Forum to much.
So Dumb Wheels gave the win to the Suzuki vs the Polaris?WHOOPeeee Freaking DOOooo!I dont read ANYTHING that any magazine has to say about ANY ATV shootouts anymore. If they gave the win to a Suzuki,GREAT!That means NOTHING to me.Give it to Honda[they usually do]that means JACK!These publishers have proven time in and time out to be biased towards their sponsors, and thats only a fact.
So you dont agree with me?I said a former owner is a good person to comment on ATV subjects.I meant what I said and I stand by that.I have owned ,Chrysler/Dodge,Ford,Buicks,Chevys,Pontiacs,and Olds.So using YOUR method of determining the best vehicle,I should like my present OLDs the best and slam the rest? What a stupendous comment that I find ridicules to say anything else about.
Struting myself on my 400?Yes,it usually does turn alot of eyes on the trail, and I must admit,I love the feeling, especially when I wax the little 12 volt battery operated Barbie cars!MAN,WHAT A RUSH!
