Post Gear position sensor

Hey everyone, its me again. My 2002 Suzuki Vinson Quadrunner 500 isnt showing me the gear postions when I shift. The dash is working fine and every now and then it will show a "P" for park... but when in High or low or reverse it onle shows a blinking line. Is there a electronic senso that could be faulty ? If so where is is located ? Thanks for the help.

There is a shift drum that goes more or less across the engine, on the Eiger the rotary gear position switch is in the case that holds the centrifugal clutch so I would guess that is where yours is. A spring loaded plunger pokes out of the end of the shift drum, as the drum turns round, the plunger touches a different contact of the rotary switch for each gear position, earthing each in turn. I would guess your plunger is dirty or the contacts on the switch, worn.

Thanks a lot, this at least gives me a starting point to get the thing working right again...lol. I will update after I get a chance to look at it.

Cheers.
