Been working on the mother in laws old 500 vinson trying to get it running good for the family.
Cleaned the carb this time last year and it ran and started with the button.
But went to clean the carb again this year just to be sure and when i went to start it the button didn’t work. clicking noise coming from starter relay. decided to cross the solenoid and it’ll crank and sputter but the dash will flash and cut out. it’ll start when the dash isn’t flashing but soon as the dash cuts out the engine does aswell. Seems like some sort of electrical short or maybe a cdi?

 

Sounds more like a bad earth. Check all thick wire connections. Not sure about the Vinson but Suzuki have a habit of fitting a few weedy thin earth wires too. The 450 to 750 King Quads have some. Suzuki ignition switches and the fuse holder part of the solenoid can also become faulty.
