Hi all! In my quest to properly re-jet my stock carb on my 89 Quadracer I heard that it's a good idea to clean you airfilter first. So last night (after a fun night's riding at the local track)I tried to pull it off but couldn't. It looks like the K&N filter was not meant to fit into the stock Suzuki air box. I noticed that it looks like the airbox can be split open, but I'm not sure how to do it. Or do I just need to be a man and rip it out (hopefully I don't tear the filter apart at the same time). Thanks for your help!

The LT's airbox is a piece of junk when it comes to getting a K&N out. First, unscrew the screw in the middle and pull the screw and black metal part that is at the end of the filter. Then I pull at the top of the filter and it will catch inside of the air box. While pulling up, reach inside the airbox and give the bottom of the airfilter a good pull. I will slide around the plastic inner piece of the box. If you just pull from the top and not the bottom also, then you can probably cause some damage. Hope this makes sense.

Guido, thanks for the reply. You nailed down my problem exactly. I kept pulling on it, but could never get the bottom over the inside of the airbox. I also didn't know that the black metal round part (I am assuming this is the part you mean) on the air filter comes off, I thought that it was permanently attached. Again thanks for your help, and BTW I like your website. I'll try to get a picture of my quad up there soon.
