sorry to say but my 400ex's will run dead even with piped LT's. i have drag raced so many of them things, not to mention they are ugly too.

 

I don't thik the LT's are ugly but thank you for the info. I bet they can wheelie easily too.

 

 

If you are trying to win a horsepower war, the EX probably in not the way to go. If you want a great handling machine with tons of potiential, then the ex may be just what you are looking for. If you currently have something to ride, you might want to be patient.
By the way, I can ride a wheelie in almost any gear on a 400EX, it has such a sweet balance point, you really only need to lean back and roll on the throttle. I am not going to bag on quad racers, but I will say that you don't see them in competition like the old R's and the new EX's. Something to think about, the Suzuki was in production from 85 until 92 and they never got the handling quite right. I wouldn't buy the first new 'zuki to hit the showroom. I advise caution and patience.

 

ok since i have had almost as much time on my friends 2000 400EX as i have had on my LT i will put this arguement to rest. his only mods are an unresticted stock sliencer, and his airbox lid off. mine where an S-A Pro silencer and holes drilled in the airbox. oh and by the way at the time i was jetted incredibly rich. i was probobly only running at 70 percent. anyways first we dragged. it was on pavement. first time we both pulled wheelies through second gear but i pulled ahead. he said he didn't get a good start. so we raced again this time he barely popped a wheelie and i didn't. just to make sure he couldn't use the same excuse twice i didn't get on the gas until i was sure he was hammering it. well i hit my throttle and i just took off. i beat him by about 2 and a half lenghts. then we went out to the trails. we have a little flat track their that we raced around. i won but barely. i have very little tread on my tires so i couldn't get all the power i needed. i had to rely on the powersliding ability i had. when the race was finally over i had won by less than a second. i was exausted and he was barely breaking a sweat. so yes my LT was faster in a straight line by quite a bit but on the track we were almost even. gary, if that 400 could loft the wheels on pavement something must have been seriously wrong with it. all the 400's i have ridden (and i've ridden at least 3 others besides my friends) could easily lift the front end up in 1st through 3rd gear and you could ride wheelies through every gear easy. now i see i'm getting off topic but i just wanted to clarify. that was completely unbiased and it is all true.

 

Thank you ridzhard and juggalo. you are the only ones to really helpme. I have decided to get a 400EX now, since the new quad could have some troubles. also, I want a quad that handles good and I am sure I will want more pwer out of it when I get it so that's why I am putting the big bore kit on it, also, I am planning on racing MX and maybe XC and the 400EX has proven to be a good machine on the track and trail.

 

Well here is my 2 cents. My brother has a cherry '92 Quadracer 250 that I have ridden frequently thoughout the years. Last summer I rode a 400EX that was stock except for a cam. The day I rode it I was on my old 250X at the time so the 400EX felt very impressive. Unfortunitly I could wasn't able to compare the Quadracer against the 400EX the same day. My impressions were that the 400EX grabbed traction and felt very punchy. The Quadracer is very fast but will spin the tires until you get used to the power. At low to mid range the 400EX felt more potent, from mid to high the Quadracer felt a lot faster. As far as handling, both quads push their front ends at low speed. The 400EX seemed to handle better but it also felt heavier. The Quadracer was the best quad I had ever ridden so I wasn't totally impressed by the 400EX. The Honda quad is very nice but to me it is not that much of an improvement over a 9 yr old Quadracer. If the Honda had reverse than I would be much more impressed since it would fit the mold of 4-stroke sport quad rather than a racer.

 

I would wait...just about any hi-perf quad can be faster than the 400.. but I like the 400ex too because of it's handling and reliability, but i said the heck with it and bought a raptor cuz it was faster and got the 4 year warrenty so all is good.

 

LT what the hell reason would I have to lie? I rode a 400EX monday and on pavement without body english, by just power it would not pull the front wheels off the ground.That is pretty measly performance.I could wheelie all day with my old ATC185S, but it required a hard yank on the bars.Once again I am just saying what I feel about a bike, not some sugar coated response,I was honestly dissapointed by the 400EX and it felt WAY slower than my 250.
