So I'm lying? What else have I lied about? I probably don't have a quadracer do I? Probably don't have an RM either, just some 11 year old, right LT? Its easy to say whatever and look the other way, but I'm not a lier and wouldn't lie, I have no reason to.I rode the 400Ex for the first time the other day and was not surprised or impressed with the machine, it felt very slow.Like I said, not surprising though, I have ridden the XR400 many times and already know what that motor is about. Slow, trail riding and Zero maintenance, not arm ripping power.

The reason I said that is because it doesn't make sense that my Mojave 250 could pull a wheelie out of a cookie without any body english but you can't get the front end up on a 400EX on pavement. I know that LT's are fast, I've ridden them and like them but want something a little newer. Also, if I don't like the EX than I know I could trade it for an R or quadzilla or whatever I want, I see ads saying they wanna trade their 2-stroke for a 400EX everytime I search for a quad.

So your Mojave could pull the front end up on its own accord? I'm not talking about yanking on the bars and gassing it and I'm not talking about putting your butt on the grab bar and gassing it, I'm talking about rolling in a straight line and punching it with a nuetral body position.I did that on a 400EX and it didn't pull the front wheels off the ground, I do that on my 250 and I'm looking at sky.Don't call me out like I'm some lier, I have no reason to and would never lie about a machine I don't know.

i love the 400EX (yellow of course) and i was going to get one but i bought a RM250 instead. the 400ex's arent too fast but they sure have some power. the other day i was riding my friends bone stock 400ex with bald tires on grass and with a little yank on the bars i was able to ride 5th gear wheelies for about 30 feet. in fact the 400EX was voted #1 wheelie machine by Dirt Wheels.

No manilow, all I have to do is hit the gas and it'll pop up, sometimes I would neeed to use the clutch, but still it came up. No yanking on the bars at all. Mike, did you race the 400EX on your RM? What did it do?

mike that 1 wheelie rating was for current production quads not past quads. also gary, there had to be something wrong with that 400. its true it won't rip your arms off but it'll take off pretty good. also if it doesn't wheelie in a nutral body postion on pavement it has to be messed up. i can almost sit on the bars in the grass and pop it up. in fact one of my fave ground tricks on my friends 400 is to put my legs in front of me over the bars and ride wheelies up and down a field. on pavement i have to be sittin on my grab bar to pop the front end up on my lt with just the gas (i really need to rejet though so that probably has somethin to do with it.) with a clutch drop my lt will pull the kind of wheelie my friends 400 will pull with only a little gas. so i don't know what was up but somehin defantely was messed up. i can pop wheelies with just gas in gears 1-4 on the 400. a fourth gear wheelie isn't a very good one but its a wheelie none the less. i can ride a wheelie through all 5 gears when i'm not even balanced on that thing. my lt will only pop a wheelie with gas in first gear. it will lift up with a clutch drop in 1-3 and i can ride a wheelie through all the gears if i'm balanced just right. so once again somethin had to have been messed up on that 400.

Man, I'd tell you to wait for the Suzuki, but there's no tellin' how long a wait that will be. Now if you have already got a Mojave what do you want a 400EX for? It'll take bucket loads of money to get that thing up to the speeds that these other hi-po machines are cranking out now. They are in need of an update because I have never seen one win any kind of a drag-race. I would either wait for the new 'zuki or get something that you'll be happy with and I think we both know it won't be the 400EX. They are okay, but nothing exciting. I know there's quite a disparity between the two, but my Quadzilla will absolutely kill that 400EX. It doesn't even become a question of handling characteristics when I'm already gone. If you want a new something, I believe the Raptor would be a good buy. They should have all those bugs worked out for this next production year. I like the DS look and feel, but I'm used to the bigger quads. What do you think about the DS 650?

P.S. Gary's usually pretty much on when it comes down to motors, he's just opinionated like we all are. We are both a little down on the manufacturers for not giving us a 2-stroke. Oh, well. Good luck in your decision.

Slinger, you are the person who makes the most sense on this forum. I want to buy a new quad, not new to me. I have never really had a nice quad. My friend had a 2000 Banshee but I didn't like it. I want a Quadzilla more than anything but I hear they are not good for MX, which is what I am going to be doing. I also want a 250R more but I know if I don't like my 400 then I can trade ot for just about any of the eighties Hi-Performance quads that I would want. Look at classifieds and you'll see alll these 250R's and Quadzilla's saying"trade for Raptor or 400EX." So I could easily get something else. Yeah, I am also hoping Kawie brings out the KZF250!!!!

With only $700 in engine mods in my 416EX, I EASILY walk my friend's LT250R every single time we drag race (300-400yds).

Now, to get his machine to handle the way a 400EX does right out of the box would cost him a whole heck of a lot more than $700. In fact, he has Works shocks on his Lt250R, and his suspension is still needs help.

Back to the original post/question:
Buy the 400EX now, and rest assured, with < $1k in motor mods, it WILL spank the new Suzuki sport400....if we ever see it.

WAKE UP SUZI / KAWI

Drag race I beat so and so is not very reliable, a 416 EX shouldn't "Walk away from" an LT, it weighs more and puts out less HP, but I digress. The DRZ motor if its your thing, has a whole lot more potential than the measly little air cooled XR400 motor.
