I recently bought a 91' suzuki lt250r quadracer and am in the process of fixing a few things. There is a gas leaking out of what looks like to be the crankcase right where the bolt goes through to hold the motor on. It doesn't leak till i shut the motor off. It runs great. it stops leaking after a minute though. I doesn't leak too much either. My dad had a yamaha motorcycle that did the same thing and the needle or something like that was bad in the carb. and after he fixed that it stopped leaking and has had no trouble. Could this be the same thing wrong with my lt250r? Has anyone else had this problem?

thanks for any help,

Chuck

Where is the gas leaking from? You gave us a pretty vague question. (No Offense). Which bolt? Are you sure its not leaking down the outside of the crankcase and showing up where you see it? Wipe the entire engine down and run it till you see the leak. Let us know.

The gas is not running down the case. It is coming out of the bottom of the motor in the front right where the bolt goes through to hold the motor on. It also does not leak until I shut the motor off.

Chuck...what Mike meant was is where is the gas coming from? Gas can 't come from the crankcase. Is this gas mixed with oil, gas mixed with dirt, water? Is it dripping on something from above and is finding the nearest path to the ground using the frame or engine as it's means. Is there a carb vent hose in the area.

You see it's tough for us to help you with this type of question. Before you ask a question try to get as much info as you can. Steam clean the bike, remove and plastic in the way and carefully inspect the bike. You'll probably find your problem faster than asking it here.

If your Dad's bike did the exact same thing then by all means replace the needle and seat in the carb. Your looking at about 30-40 bucks.

Good Luck,
Rob
