I just bought a 1987 quadracer. It is a blast to ride, however it smokes really bad. Is this caused by not running it fast enough. Also where it seems to have most of it's power is what i think is all top end. You have to rev the thing to make it do anything. Is this how it is sopposed to be?? thanks for any help

You could be mixing your gas/oil mixture a little rich or your carb may be a little rich too. As far as reving it to get power goes all two strokes are like that to an extent, with out riding your's I couldn't say for sure if some thing is wrong with it or not. What did you ride before and what kind of oil do you run and at what ratio? Do you foul a lot of spark plugs? Does the quad load up at lower RPM's?

Is this your first two stroke? Always be sure to mix your gas/oil at 32:1.

Actually that depends on what kind of oil you run. I run Golden Spectro and they recomend running that at either 40:1 or 52:1. Same goes with most synthetics such as PJ1 or Klotz. The synthetic blend allows you to run a leaner ratio which also in turn greatly reduces plug fouling and carbon build up.

For 2 stroke oil,, I'm running Honda HP2 mixing it at 50:1 and running it on 104 octane,, same as I run in my 1996 CR250.. It smokes the worst and low RPM's.. It's gets better as you run it harder but I still think it smokes to much,, what you think... Let me know Thanks a lot guy's

Hmmmm......sounds like maybe a rich pilot jet then. That or your needle position could be a bit rich. It's hard to diagnose a problem without seeing it first hand, but from what you say that is what I would check next.
