i put a new piston and rings in my 1986 230 quadsport about four mounths ago and my suzuki shop said the cylinder didnt need boring. so new piston with new rings and put it back together and it has been running fine until a couple weeks ago it started smoking again. my question is this, could it be the valves? does it have valve seals like a car? it smokes worse when you first start it and on a car that is usually valve seals. the only thing my shop manual says about the valves is to take it to a shop and have them servived. appreciate any help i can get

Well if you put a Wiseco piston in it thats the trouble. I had one in mine and it started smoking ever since rebuild and just kept on smoking. Dealer said wiseco's are supposed to do that until 800 miles.

Yes, if you have a wiseco piston. If the compression is low then its got other problems too. My wiseco would only smoked for about the first 20minutes of every time rode it then it stopped.

2000 MOJAVE if you havn't ever owned a quadsport or used a wiseco piston don't be talking crap. The wiseco's are forged pistons which means they will expand when they warm up so you have to bore the cylinder a few more thousands. It will smoke till it warms up because of excessive piston to cylinder wall clearance.

I had an 87 quadsport that my buddie owned before, he rebuilt the top end the year before I bought it. It always smoked, from the day he got it in 1990 he rebuilt it for the hell of it, it always smoked for me in the morning when I started riding. It always ran great so I didn't wory about it, I rode it that way for 2 years.

<< So non-forged pistons don't expand when they get hot? >>

Yes they expand but not as much as forged.

<< If markvette doesn't know any better he might go spend some hard earned$$$$ because of your mis-informative info. It's not crap man, geez! >>

Like I said its not a problem its just the piston. Your the one telling him its the rings. In my case its totally normal so I wouldn't touch it. He siad it wasn't but 4 months ago. Hell i don't even know if he has a wiseco piston, but if he does thats it.
