Ok i gave you a bit of crap advice...by manufacturer i meant your suzuki dealer. just ring any reputable MX store and they'll tell ya. your bike was made a long time ago and the oils are different now. you can use less oil and it wont harm your engine because of new technology in the oils. your smokey problems are because of your mixture. its got way too much oil. My manual too says some ratio like that. its old news. all the stock lt250r's i know of around here are getting around fine with 32:1 like ours is. i would recommend running that. Also run a good oil. it may be a little more expensive, but theres a lot less headaches. hope that helps

I've got a '85 LT250 i run 32:1 and it runs great,But my bike was bored 40 over, ported & polished, and the head has been shaved. The only time my bike started really smoking was when I was about to lose a ring. You say you are breaking in a new cylinder so i suppose you have a new piston. You want to make sure that the cylinder was miked to your piston to insure a proper fit. That has been my experince, and it might not help, but there it is.

Well i honestly beleive that he's smoking problems are due to the mixture he's running right now. 20:1 is way too much oil. it should smoke quite a bit. Our lt is stock except for a ct (?) pipe and it runs very nice on 32:1. i used to have a '98 CR250 as well and i ran 32:1 in that too. all two stroke 250's that i know of around here run somewhere around 32:1. some run 40:1 for a little extra speed...thats about it.

If i have a 5 gallon gas tank how much oil do i put in or mix with it. WHats the easiest way to compute that stuff, i am sure its easy but I am stupid I guess. THanx for everything!

Very easy!!! follow these steps

1) take your oil...1 lt or .5lt or .38lt
2) then multiply by the ratio you want...the answer gives you the amount of gas to mix with your oil

EXAMPLE 1: I bought a .38 liter bottle of synthetic oil for my 87 zilla. I wanted to run at 40:1 SO here goes .38 liters (oil) x 40 (ratio) = 15.2 liters of gas.
.38 oil in 15.2 liters of gas gives you 40:1

EXAMPLE 2: 1 liter of oil and I want 30:1 SO 1 x 30 = 30 liters of gas oops your gerry can is too small so just split everything in two .5 oil and 15 liters of gas will still give you 30:1

EXAMPLE 3: I usualy mix at 32:1 but now I can't get my oil in full liters now only comes in .5 liter so take your 1/2 liter (.5) x 32 = 16 liters of gas

Hope this helps!!! I had to struggle for a long time to figure this out, but now it's simple. I you guys are still having trouble with this math stuff give me a shout

Hey man Aussie is always trying to help

Well thats the first time ive seen someone mix according to the amount of oil. Ive always mixed in my oil with the amount fuel i buy. When i go to the service station, make sure you watch the AMOUNT of fuel u put into a container. We're in Litres over here so that how ill explain it. I have a 20L 'jerry can' which i use to take my fuel to the riding spot. i then have a 5L mixing container. When i fill the mixing container to the top, its exactly 5L. knowing this, i do the maths. The easiest way to remember it is like this. If your mixture is 32:1 then simply divide how much fuel you have by the ratio ie 32. ie. 5/32=.156 which means 156mL to 5L of fuel. (Just to be on the safe side, i always put in 160mL) I use an old baby bottle with a measure scale up the side for the oil. You can do the same for any ratio. ie. 40:1 is 5/40=.125 which is 125mL of oil for 40:1 ratio. very straight forward. im really bad with the imperial system so i wont even try to convert it

i have heard that mixed fuel can deteriorate over time so i only mix just before i ride. Another hint is, if your using a container that you fill to the top, fill it up 3/4 full, then add your oil, shake it heavily, then add the rest of the fuel. that way your sure that the oil has mixed with the fuel and isnt sitting on the bottom of the container. hope this helps dude. Any other problems, just ask.

Haha, ya dont need to know that. just get a calculator, and use the little formulae i wrote. instead of using litres, use gallons etc etc. the numbers will work out. the most easiest way, if you wanna be really slack is to ask a MX shop.
