My 86 230 has a 12 tooth front sprocket, if I put a 14 tooth on how much top end can I get? And do I need to get a smaller rear sprocket to compensate for the larger front one?. The thing can pull a house down, but can't get out of it's own way.

i dont think you can get a 14 tooth front for the 230, i have a 230 and i have 11, 12,and 13 tooth front sprockets that i change out to fit the type of riding i will be doing at a certain time. with the 13 you will gain quite a bit of top speed but you will lug your engine a lot unless you have some mods to go with the gear. matter of fact i have only put the 13 on once and didnt like the low end i lost. the sprocket is only $6.95 from rocky mountain atv so its cheap enough to find out if you like it or not. but like i said in the beginning, i dont think you can get a 14. hope i helped.

Actually putting a smaller rear sprocket on will act the same as putting a bigger sprocket on the front. It will take away power and give you top speed.
