Are both chain rollers on a 1987 LT500R the same size?(same part No.) The problem with mine is that the owner before me totally wore off the entire bottom roller. Therefore I have nothing to go by. The dealer wants $30+ and he can't match up with any less expensive aftermarket replacement.

Thanks

when rebuilding mine i noticed they had worn at diferent rates too. the bottom one was badly worn and the top one was in pretty good nik. i replaced the bearings with skateboard bearings and swaped them around as the top one is hardly used from what i could see unless u run a loose chain or run big jumps.

AussieZilla, were the chain rollers the same size initially? I know that the bottom roller wears faster because of gravity's effect on the chain. I could possibly swap the upper with the lower but I have no lower chain roller to swap.

Hey, I have an '87 LT500R and I just bought two aftermarkets off the rack at the local Suzuki shop and put them on. They were the same size and came in blue. That was two years ago and they are still in great condtion.

Ya, the dealer probably doesn't know what is going on again. They always get something screwed up. They never fail to disappoint me.

I dont have any chain rollers on my 87 LT500. Are they important? I've had my machine for 3 years with no real problems without any chain rollers. What do they do?

TM Designs makes the best aftermarket rollers and they are not much more than dealer stock price. Most of their products come with a warranty.

The chain rollers keep the chain from flopping around too much during the suspension travel. Anyone that can run three years without them, probably isn't jumping very big, hard, or often. Eventually the chain will derail possibly resulting in a cracked case.

You can buy one from Rocky mounain atv for 12.99. I just bought the upper and lower for my lt250r, they were the same, I think there the same as the quadzilla too. rockymountainatv.com

Back before I bought my Zilla I used to snoop around in the Bombardier forum 'cuz I was thinkin about gettin a DS....Anywho, some guys in there take a skateboard wheel with bearings and say it fits perfect for a chain roller, so long as you get one with the right diameter.....
