I put a 38 air striker carb on my lt250r and the boot attaching the carb and airbox was too small so I shaved the inside of it. This did the trick but it does not fit very securely and is a pain to put on the carb. I was wondering if I could use the boot from a quadzilla? They have a bend in them but I don't know if it will bend around my shock like the stock boot. Has anyone did this or modified their own if some way? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I did the same as you, I genlty sanded the inside of the carb boot (on the reed side) and mine did seem to fit good. I have an 87 cylinder on my 92 QR250, so I didn't have a choice but if you have and 88 - 92 cylinder you can buy a Boysen rad valve, that comes with a proper boot. This would be a good investment for you as the 88 - 92 reed cage is very small and bairly flows enough air from the stock carb never mind 4 mm more.

I have a '91 lt and I already have the Boysen rad valve and reeds. The boot that I can't get to fit right is the one that connects the carb to the airbox.

To get the boot from the air box on a bigger carb., just boil it. It will stretch and be easier to get on, it will hold that shape also. That is how i got a 39mm PWK on my 90lt250r. I had to sand the carb to reed boot.

Kadafiy,
I don't have any suggestions for your dilemma, but I was wondering if you could give some feedback when you get your carb installed. I've got an 89 LT250R and I wanted to try the same carb and Rad Valve but didn't know how much of a difference it would make over my stock Mikuni which is jetted to the max.
Anybody else have a suggestion for a carb/reed setup?

I have already had the carb on the bike and running and it makes a big difference. I also jetted my carb out to the max before moving up to the 38. Make sure to check your compression to see what size carb is right for you. I put the boysen rad valve with carbon fiber reeds on a while ago and they really improved the low end. Now I'm making a reed spacer which should help too.
