i was at the seattle motorcycle show today... and guess what i seen????
yeller...
400cc...
liquid cooled...
sport quad...
Suzuki...
they had the lt400z!
nice looking machine.
ergos felt great. tank is narrow.
the frame is very different than the old LTR.
the dealer from portland said they plan to have 300 and 500cc models eventually... but no other details. i said it needs an RM250 engine.... he said i'm nuts.
i took the seat off, they changed the latch completely, the airbox lid is huge.
he said this one should be seen on showrooms for-sure before summer, but he hinted that models may arrive as early as late jan.

Dual Sporter did you have a chance to sit on it?? I'm guessing it feels a lot like a 400ex. My wife is second on the list of our local dealer. I'll be racing my brother on my Raptor, because he is first on the list. It will be on an mx track if they come out before mid April and of course we'll check it's kuhundo's up Sand Mtn at LS, Utah to see the power.

i did sit on it, it actually felt a little narrower than the EX but other than that, realy similar. the back suspension felt very soft.
i noticed that the frame is more perimeter, the tank goes between the outer rails, they eliminated the big tube as a 'backbone,' creating more space for the airbox, battery, shock, etc....
the radiator has a fan & shroud, and a thermal switch on it, as well as a plastic louvered guard.
the axle carier other lookers were talking about too, its very similar to the old LTR, but the brake mount is now cast into the bearing carier... eliminating about 8 parts(the brace, bracket and all related fastners), and making the whole setup lighter & simpler.
what i personally didn't like was that fact that the front plastic mounts to the headlights and some side brackets, which then mount to the frame... i assume someone will come out with a mount to eliminate headlights, maybe maier or another plastic manufacturer will make a good race plastic for it.
what's funny is it was sitting directly accross the aisle from the raptor display... was that planned?... naw!

I would be the first one in line to buy one. I just wish they would have added fenders to the front like the old quadsport. Or they could have a aftermarket set of extension you could bolt on. Here in wisconsin alot of riding is done in wet or muddy conditions and a set of fenders is nice. Doesnt have to be full coverage just extensions on the bottom side of the front fenders. But it sure looks like a great machine.

i didn't look that deep into the bearing carier, i didn't see one... but that doesn't mean one doesn't exist.
i know i didn't see a grease zerk on the A-arm bushings.
i noticed that the upper ball joint is replaceable, but the lower one is part of the a-arm. tie-rod ends are the same as the LTR's.
