This thing is real pushing my limits. I have a 86 quadracer and every week its something else. Today i got it back from the shop ready for a week off of school to ride. Well it ran fine in the morning. I cut it off and went inside to get something to drink. I came out and it started right up, i got about a 10 scond ride and it cut off. I havnt been able to get it started since. This bites!! I'm so close to selling it right now. I posted a forum about only getting 45 min. on a tank of gas. It may be carb. trouble. Any ideas??

My 500r started right up after an engine rebuild for about 30sec then stalled. Pulled it all afternoon behind my car with the occasional backfire. Turns out the timming key broke and the fly wheel was spinning around the shaft. I would check this first. The key is there for timming purposes only not for driving the flywheel. The taper, when tightened properly is the only thing doing the driving. As for the gaz sucking problem it does not sound normal...either it burns it, which will be obvious for the heavy smoke and poor performance or drips it from the tank, carb or gaz line or for some reason its sucking it into the trany somehow (highly unlikely)

hope this helps

Thanks alot, that was the problem when my crankshaft stripped. Turns out, it only needed a new spark plug. Im so glad. Can my gas problem do any actual damage to the engine?

What did the shop actually do to the quad? It doesn't sound like they fixed the fuel problem. Why don't you ask them to take a look at it for you?

There IS a problem with your fuel consumption. It is not normal!! Is it smoking very bad?? and after a short ride is the plug all gumed up and dripping??? This quad must run very poorly (way way too rich). It must be dripping or draining somewhere, check the level in the trany!! I will be gone for a few days...back on wed.
