Utility Box
#1
Hey Guys... Just picked up a new box for the back rack.
I went down to a local sheet metal shop, and talked to the girl. I explained my idea of what I was looking for, and gave the dimensions, she drew up a sketch and a week later I picked it up.
Its made out of galvanized sheet metal, which is also paintable and weighs about 10 or 12 lbs. She did an excellent job. I picked up a piano hinge, and am about to section it off on the inside for the different kinds of gear that I want to put in it. As soon as I get it done, I'll post some pictures at yahoo for you to look at.

Is this just a toolbox?
I bought a $20 plastic box at kmart, drilled 4 holes in it, and mounted it to the back rack, I carry enough tools, to take the whole quad apart, straps to tow it, and other accessories that may be required when miles away from civilation....
I was just curious about why you had one built. Does it perform a special purpose?
I went with the plastic intentionally, I have a habit of putting mine in situations that it won't handle. It's no stranger to being upside down. The plastic box won't hurt quite as bad.
If you ever roll it, that metal box could mess you up, if it nails you in the back or something.
I'm not criticizing you, just want to make sure you're aware of it. I don't want to see anyone get hurt.
Good luck,

Low-Gear.. I made one for a couple of reasons. The Lt-500 only has a 3 gal. tank, so I had her attach an open slot on the side of the box for a 1 gal jerry can. Besides tools, I carry a bicycle air pump in case of a flat, a propane torch cause on day long trips we usually stop for lunch and start a fire to cook something, I also take a Thermos for a hot drink, and because of the fact that I broke through the ice a couple of months ago, and froze my a$$ off, I take a dry pair of socks and a small towel. Its also good for my girlfriend to lean against when we're doubling.
Up here in Canada, besides the snow ( as you guys got in S.C. and N.C. ) it gets really cold, and when we are out in the middle of no where, I just like to be prepared.
