Just wondering what improvements we can do to the 2001 LT80. I already removed the black piece in the carb. What else is their to do? Pipe? Clutch? Filter? Porting? Anything simple and cost very little?

Hi,

Did you also take out the restrictor in the exhaust? that will open it up a bit. The simplest mod (totally free, just some of your time) is taking out half of the weights in the front clutch pulley. Just take out every other weight (there are 6) leaving the remaining ones in a triangle pattern. This will run the engagement point up on the clutch, and really make it climb great, keeps the revs in the power band, and barely affects the takeoff from idle. Pipes run a bit of money, the cheap ones are junk,I had a DG on my son's,poorly constructed. If you are looking for more power, the reed cage is very narrow,it can be ported out, then jetting to match the new air flow will really get it taking off. I'm sure there are a lot of other mods, and I've seen a lot of posts for this, so I'm sure you will get a lot of good recommendations.

Hope your kid has fun,and push the safety !!

Hi,

As a matter of information, is there a dealer or website that has the pipes you suggest. I'm new to the machine (my son's machine) and would like to give it a boost for him as he has clearly reached the limits of its power now.

Thanks.

I'm not convinced that taking 3 weights out of the front clutch is such a good idea on a stock 80. Unless you can pull a lot more rpm, you will not have enough weight to fully close up the front pulley, therefore top speed will suffer heaps. Sure, you can lighten the weights, but not halve them.
Lighteneing the centrifugal weights in the rear clutch to raise lock up is a good mod ( and free). Around 198 gms for a start.
Porting is the best value mod on an LT.. I'm speaking from experience.
