oil leak (lt250r)
#1
I have a 91' lt250r quadracer and am almost done rebuilding it from the ground up (bearings, top end, paint, ect.) Before I started there was a leak and i didn't know where it was coming from for sure. I found where it is coming from now. Not much is leaking out but just a little. It is leaking out of the motor mount on the bottom of the motor where the long bolt goes through both sides of the frame. It seems to becoming out of hole where the bolt goes. The bolt is in there and the motor is all mounted. I just finished the clutch yesterday and filled it with oil. Does anyone know why it would be coming out of there? It is coming out of there for sure. Is it possible to fix it without taking the motor apart. I just got it back together. I am hoping to start it tomorrow. any help would be greatly appreciated.

dude, i dont know if there the same or not but on my '85 the bolt hole you are talking about is directly in the center of the motor, and the case slit runs through that mount, so if it's the same then you might have a small scratch, ding, or somthing right there at that seem that wont let the cases seal. It happened to me with my base gasket on my cylinder, there was a small lip at the seem of the cases which let coolant leak out. A quick fix would be talk some Yamabond or JB weld and stick right there, i would'nt do it on my bike, but it'll work if dont want to pull the motor or slit the case. Your in the same boat i am thought, cause i just got my bike built back up (ground up) put coolant in it and it leaked at the base gasket. Had to pull the motor again, but if i was going to take the time to rebuild it right, then i was going to take the time to get the motor right too.Glad i did it too. hope that helped, probablly not though

if you have a leak where its described, then what's also going to happen if & when you do start it is that it may cause the cases to leak air into the crankcase... which could cause lean fouling, if not siezure within a very short time(and you'd be right back at rebuilding.) it's best to split cases, figure out why its not sealing & fix it right.... but the choice is up to you.

Thanks for the help.
I had it running yesterday. It seemed to run great. I still need to put the swing arm back on before I can ride it though. It idled and seemed run very good, started the first kick. I think i'm going to try to seal the leak either with Seal All or JB weld.
Also I am thinking of selling it after this winter (around April). Does anyone have a rough idea of what i could get for it. it is a 1991 lt250r
I put all new bearings, bushing, seals, ect. in it, shock, linkage, swingarm, a-arm, everything but front wheel bearings(still good). I painted the frame suzuki blue, the a-arms white, and the steering stem black. The brakes are good, new pads, good discs. There is an after market front bumper on it. It has an FMF fatty gold pipe with a answer silencer. I just rebuilt the motor, new piston, rings, wristpin, gaskets. I didn't go into the crankcase though. I put a new clutch in it with new springs. It has a hinson clutch basket. it is bored .030 in over. It also has boysen reeds, and i just rebuilt the carb. There is all new connectors on the wires.I have both a 12 and 13 tooth sprocket for it. The plastic is a little fadded but I might be able to make it a little better. The front plastic is cracked in one place, it is fixed up pretty good though (hard to tell it was cracked). This thing is in mechanically perfect shape, runs great. It also has good tires Realitors on the rear and bandit xc's on the front.
I bought it for $1800. What do u think I could get for it if I sell it? I've put a good amount of money into it after the $1800 i bought it for.
thanks,
any help with prices would be great. -chuck

Today I went to put some sealer in the bolt hole. I took the bolt out and gas/oil just poured out. The gas from the gas tank, no oil from the trans. Is it possible that my float adjustment on my carb is set to high or something in the carb allowing gas to flow in the crankcase?
I Put a new needle and seat in it. I turn the gas off when I am not running it. If the crankcase has too much gas in it will it leak out? I know there is no gasket that goes between the 2 cases.
has this happened to anyone before?
thanks for any help possible,
chuck

dude, if you got gas in the crankcase then you have a bigger problem then you might think. There isn't suppose to be any pre-mix in the crankcase. So if you are SURE that it's premix in your crankcase then you either need to do one of two things...either do the right thing and pull the motor back out and have a decent mechanic look at it and get the motor like it's suppose to or just sell it and let some poor soul deal with it
