I have been trying to help out a friend with an 87 250 QuadRacer. His kick starter spring broke. Of course he took it apart himself but couldn't get it back together. I have been trying to reassemble it for him but am having trouble getting the spring in right. Not sure if it needs a preload or something. Any info would be appreciated. Is there a particular brand of manual thats better than others? Thanks in advance.

If memory seves well then when you put the spring on there you just need to set the one end in the hole and make sure you wind it really well and slide on the ratcheting gears. It needs to be wound enough that it will pull the kicker back to its original position. When you are winding it be careful when you set it because it will rape your hand if it unravels.

Thanks. Thats what I thought, I'll have to get a steel glove. I tried to do that once but almost lost a finger. I'll give it another try.

I like the Suzuki manual the best. It's probably the most detailed. I picked mine up on ebay for cheap otherwise they're like $50. Well worth the money.
