Macgiver,
I have read a couple of posts regarding problems with the Vinson. Like yours here about backfiring and others with shifter problems. Are you happy with yours? I was just about sold on one, but I am leary after reading about these problems.

I asked the same thing about my quadrunner 500, they said it was just one of the characteristics of suzuki's. Mine does the same thing under the same conditions. it is pretty embarrassing though. Some people say that they hear it a mile away. one more reason to get a grizz.

My vinson never backfires. I am at sea level though.... wonder if you guys are getting a lean condition being up north in or near mountains?

I have made it backfire by running up to about 30 then turning it off and coasting to a stop then turning it back on. Sounds like a 7 mag going off. But, that is just excess fuel in the muffler being ignited when I turn it back on.

FYI....

I have over 100 miles on my Vinson and have had no shifter problems or any backfire. A backfire is usually a lean condition so you may want to play with the jetting. Since it is under warranty let the dealer take care of it. If the dealer can't or won't fix it then see another dealer. You shouldn't have to live with it backfiring.
