I recently bought a 1986 lt250r quad. It appears to be smoking blue a little bit. Am I mixing wrong. I mixed at 32 to 1. The Gentlemen that I bought it from said it had aftermarket reeds and a aftermarket exhaust. It is way to fast for me and I would like to get rid of the blue smoke. Also is there a quite muffler that I can buy to make this thing a little quieter ? Thanks in advance Doug

on start up it, is normal for a 2-stroke to smoke, they depend on gas dynamics that change as engine temp changes.

what kind of 2-stroke oil are you using? there are some that are smokeless and after warm-up, there is almost no more smoke... i use a synthetic blend(maxima super-M) at 40:1...once the engine is warm there is almost no more smoke.

jetting could be rich, feeding too much oil& gas into the engine, making it smoke. study up on jetting before trying it or take it to someone who knows how to jet for your area.

I am almost postitive that this is caused by a bad right oil seal on the main. this means that you are burning your oil from your transmision. mine did the same thing. once I replaced the seal all was well. good luck

You'd have many other problems if it was a bad seal. (Highly unlikely)

It is purely the nature of the beast. (2 strokes smoke, especially with a cold motor)
Jetting could be a little rich also..but if it runs good without blubbering/fouling plugs, I'd be willing to bet you're okay.

Switch oils and see if that helps? I run Amsoil series 2000 synthetic @ 50:1, and have virtually no smoke.

Thanks for the replies. I am new at this , I did not know that they smoke a little bit when the engine is cold. After warm up , this thing really screams. My only problem is that I can't hold on for very long..
thanks again...Doug
