I have an 85' quad racer. When i was putting the engine back in after painting my frame, i was reconecting the clutch cable. On the right side of the engine case there is the little arm the cable attaches to.

I went to pull it off and re-adjust the clutch arm. I was pulling up on it and it and the whole shaft it was connected to came out of the engine case. At the end of this shaft there was a gear. I slid the shaft back in and finnished asembling the quad.

Now its all together and the shift lever sticks. Also when you try to shift it just skips around and wont stay in any gear. I am not sure but they dont seem to be in order but im sure thats just because it is skipping gears.

What have i done?
Is this something I can fix? Matt

Well, there should've been a "C" clip or some other type of fastener that was holding the shaft in. Take the side cover off and look for the clip. It may have broken off or become fatigued and fallen off. If that clip hits the kick-starter gear or the clutch itself, you may have a problem on your hands. You will probably end up breaking some teeth off of the gear.
