Is the z400 faster then the raptor?

<< The Z400 has more torque than a stock Shee but a little less hp. You see 2 strokes make hp but not much torque >>
Since torque is mearly a form of horsepower, the Banshee does indeed have more torque than the Z400. Check out this formula: hp/rpm X 5252 = Torque......so a more powerful engine will have more torque. The high rpm torque is what makes the Banshee such an awesome climber.

Boxman,
I think that the DS is perfect for me. All of the DS650 detractors mention weight & size, but when you're riding it, because it puts out so much more torque than most other quads you don't even notice it. Besides, when things are built better & more heavy duty, the end result is added weight. Just take a look at the suspension on a DS. Also, keep in mind that both the DS and the Raptor are smothered for air when they come out of the factory, so they respond much more to aftermarket pipes, filter & jetting. But as I've said, it all comes down to what you like. I've never heard anyone who owns a DS say that they didn't like it. It usually is the people who either couldn't afford one, have never ridden one, or just got beat by one that talk the worst about it. You have to keep this in mind anytime that you hear trash talking about any quad. I believe for the most part that all the new sport quads are good.

<< I agree with stebob, if hp has a direct relation to torque then why do high hp gas engines not have more torque than diesel engines >>
Lets take Chevys new Duramax diesel for example
300HP @ 3100 RPM
520 FT LB of Torque @1800rpm
What is the HP of the Duramax at 1800 rpms? Torque (520)*RPM (180) / 5252 =178.2hp. The engine makes a huge amount of torque simply because the amount of power produced at a very low rpm.
At peak horsepower.....torque=hp (300) * 5252 / RPM (3000) = 525.2 FT LB of Torque.

Sure, you could do a comparism between a 300hp Duramax and a 300hp Camaro. One making horsepower at low RPM's and one at high RPM's.
Back to the quads.....WFO going up a sand hill, the Banshee develops more high rpm torque......generates more momentum and speed. Lugging out of a corner, the Z400 would be more powerful because it makes more torque than the Banshee at that RPM. At peak speed, the Banshee peaks higher because the Banshee makes it's torque higher in the rpm range.....effectively raising top speed if not undergeared. Riding in mud, the Z400 will do better because the low rpm torque will not generate as much wheelspin.....low rpms = lower wheelspin.
The Z400 makes torque in another RPM range than the Banshee......this is good in some cases and bad in others. One thing is for sure, it's all about torque and what rpm the engine is designed to make it.

It doesn't take the 450 motor to get 51 hp out of the Zux. The DRZ400 already puts that out from the same motor with a different carb' cams and head gasket. The 450 will probably put out like 60 hp.
boxman, I'm 34 and just bought the Z. I'm not a racey young kid and had nothing in mind but to ride a fun quad. If you feel comfortable with a Z now, you'll be fine on it 5 years from now.
I love mine, The ride is great and it sure performs a lot better than my Scrambler.
The DS might be nice too. I have not ridden one since I don't like the look.
