My brother semi-jokingly said after he sat on a Z400 at the dealer the otherday that it would be cool if the mags did a head to head comparison between the Z400 and the Quadracer 250 (if they could find one in mint condition!). Then paused and thought about and goes "actually, nevermind...the quadracer would kill it across the board". His logic being that a Quadsport 230/250 or Mojave or 250X woulda been an all-round mismatch against there 2 stroke racer siblings and that more displacement and power on the newer quads would make a better comparision but still fall short in overall performance. Afterall, the Mojave, quadsport and 250X were "sport" models while the T4, 'Racer and R were "high performance".

Though I agree with his logic, I disagreed on his outcome of the shootout because the mags wouldn't let quadracer win since it's not in production anymore and therefore would not benefit sales of their magazine besides the fact that it wouldn't look good for the progress of the ATV industry.

What do you think???

This would also go for KFX/KXF and EX/R comparisons.

I also think that would be the exact reason that the q-racer wouldnt win. And like you said it would look pretty darn bad on the new quads when a 13 year old quad can outrun the new 2003 models.

It's not faster. A bit slower from what I recall riding them.

Firstly, top speed is debatable but that's not exactly the only criteria or criteria at all for a comparison. Afterall, look at the most recent shootout in DW. I'm talking overall performance as a stock machine. I didn't pose this question for a discussion of top speed. why undermine an interesting question with such a one dimensional answer?? The question is: do you think, in "like new" condition, that a quadracer 250 will OUTPERFORM a Z400 in most catergories (or vice versa) in a hypothetical shootout...kinda like the '84 49ers vs. the '78 steelers.

But as for top speed, for what it's worh (nothing), the 88 'racer was clocked in a controlled top speed shootout at just under 72mph. Whether the Z equals or beats that I haven't the slightest idea. But just remember, the Tecate 4 had the highest top speed of the three 250s and it never won a shootout...so it's obviously not that important.

Once I get my Z this fall I'll get my brother to ride on of them and we'll see what happens.
