I recently purchased the Vinson & have been satisfied with the overall performance of the bike until recently when the shifter will not shift out of HI. I can only move the shifter to Park, but the digital screen reads "away". The shifter will not move all the way to the right to allow me to move it to Neutral, Low or Reverse. Has anybody seen their screen read "away" when moving the shifter to Park?

When you are experiancing this problem reach down to the shifting cable where it goes in to the transmission area and puch or pull which ever way it will go it should move about 1/4 to 1/2 in and you should be set to go into reverse or what ever gear you need. Just talked to the dealer about it today and he told me they will order in the new kit and will be able to get to it in about 3 weeks it takes around 14 hours labor need to pull motor and what not well only time will tell @ the expenice of suzuki oh well other than that I love the machine.try that and if it doesnt work try to pull the slack out of the cable with your hand and hopefully away you go.

Make sure you use the foot brake when you are shifting also push hard just for safe keeping.

I don't guess this kind of thing is normal operation(shifter getting stuck in limbo) I can't find anywhere in the manual where it addresses the flashing "away" message when this does happen. What does the kit do for the shifting mechanism?

I have talked with 2 different dealer service departments and they advise against the shifter kit. It requires tearing the engine/transmission assembly totally apart to install. Mine was a little stiff at first, but now that I have a little over 200 miles it has loosened up. No problem now, but there were many complaints on this forum early on. I believe it should loosen up to your satisfaction. My decision was to live with it rather than allow a complete teardown and risk side effects from that.

Sometimes when the shifter does seem stuck, rocking the machine will help free it up. Good luck.

I left mine alone too. It does loosen up after a few miles. I don't trust ATV mechanics enough to open my cases to tickle the innards of my machine.
