Does anybody know how fast a Z400 will go? I also want to know what people think is the best pipe for it and what is the top speed with that pipe if anyone knows. Let me know. I just bought mine.

About 66 - 67 stock. 180 lbs rider. Lighter rider a bit faster. Some are reporting around 70 - 71. Nice choice in rides! Get about 20 hours on her and she will perk up a lot!!!

Sorry i cant help you in your questions chief.I currently own a Kawasaki Lakota Sport(bought it before the Z400 came out)its a decent sport entry level quad.Well back to the point,i just wanted to say that when those(Z400)quads came out i was amazed.I like everything from the engine to the suspension and body.Im wondering how much did you pay(out the door)for yours cause here in the closest Suzuki dealership they have it more expensive than the Yamaha Raptor-$6,499/Z400-$6,799. I think thats "bu11 $h1tt" seeing that in almost every magazine that made a report of it(Z400)said that its "suggested retail price" would be arround the same as the Honda 400EX($5,699).Im currently planning on selling my quad(Kawasaki Lakota Sport) and probably going to buy one like yours.Well thanks for your time quad pal.

No kidding, that's BS pricing. I picked mine up for $200 under MSRP. Hell you can buy them in the crate on Ebay for $4999 + around $200 shipping + document fees. A lot better than $1200 over msrp. You love the Z, it cranks........

Hey "newZman" have you ever runned it with a Yamaha Raptor 660,some say it will give it a good run for its money, others say it will beat it.Just curious. Both are great quads but the Z400 is more into my budget,Ive seen a RAPTOR run and they are fast. But, for an "average joe" id rather save that extra couple of hundreds. Thanks for your time and advice

My buddy has a stock 02 Raptor, and I can beat him all the time play racing on our small track. But in a drag race he pulls ahead by the time we shift into 4th and wins by a quad length or two. All in all I would say both are great machines and very evenly matched.

(stock vs. stock) the raptor beats the Z's in the dunes, especially when both machines start to bog down near the tops of hills.

Does it beat it enough to justify the extra $1200? nope.

I've posted this story before, but anyhow here it is again. I have been waiting for the 03 Raptors to arrive. I called ahead and had one held for me, a nice BLUE one. Last month, on a Saturday I went with check in hand to pick it up. It was sitting right in the middle of the showroom floor waiting for me nice an polished.

I had wanted the biggest and the baddest freakin' quad out there. While I was at the dealership my 10 year old daughter pointed out a bright YELLOW quad in the service bay which had just been uncrated. Showing some interest the salesman told me I should take it for a test ride, he suggested I take it for a TEST RIDE. I did, about a half hour later I was loading it up on my trailer and headed home, leaving ole' BLUE behind. I've riden several different quads in the past including Raptors. The Z just felt good, very confident on it. Plus it outright hauls ***. The price wasn't the factor for me, between the two there was only about a $400 difference. The dealer had cut more off of the Raptor's msrp because they still had 2 02s and just got in 2 03s. This was the last Z they had left.

Funning thing about it was while I was signing off on the papers some other A$$hole came in and wanted the Z but they told him they had just sold it to me. He walked up to me and said "Looks like someone just bought a 4-wheeler today, huh", he was a bit PO'd. Oh well what an A$$. Anyhow, I have had no problems with my Z. I've only added body mods so far (see below) Just finished off my 4th tank of gas last weekend so I dropped her off at the dealership last night for a 1st service and check up. There is a lot a smack posted on the boards about this and that quad. Don't believe 95% of it. Ride one yourself, you'll probably take one home too. Later.......

Oh yeah, to answer your question - I haven't raced anyone, not really into showing off. I mostly head out along on almost 200 acres of woods and trails.

I've had the same results as Quadzzuki but I have since changed my gears and lost quite a bit of top end speed. They are both nice machines but the woods and trails I ride are tight and you hardly ever get above 3rd gear and I have yet to see any difference between a Raptor and a Z until you get in 4th gear and on. Ride them both and get them up to speed on level ground and make a quick turn or two. Then you decide which one you like the most.

Zookyridr,

You changed to a 13 tooth front sprocket, correct? You state that you lost quite a bit on the top end. Is it really noticable? I do mostly trail riding, and was thinking of changing to the 13 tooth for a little more low end. The trails we ride we are mostly in third gear, rarely ever 4th and 5th(except for a few short wide open areas). We go to the dunes maybe 3 times a year, in which I would switch back to the 14 tooth. Is it hard to change the sprocket? Also, where did you get it and for how much?

Thanks.
