I took off the metal weight on the end of the handle bar. I installed Oury grips. Now when I try to screw the long bolt and weight back in, it will not get tight, just spins.

If i want to install new handle bars and put after market clamps on my Z, where is the best place to put the gauges and the key? Also, what is the easiest way to do this?

Did you try tightening the nut and screw (to compress the rubber) enough so you can barely get the weight back in and then try to tighten it? It could be that the rubber isn't gripping.

Man, that irks me when people don't know what they are talking about. That "weight" is actually a bar end. These are used to keep the grips intact when and if you hit a tree or something. The way these work is that there are 2 slanted pieces that tighten up against eachother and grip against the inner wall of the bars. You just need to tighten them up.

They're 1 pound weights used to dampen the vibration in the handlebar. You don't need them to keep your grips on, your grips are glued on.

On my bar ends, there is a nut glued to a rubber piece. When you tighten the screw, the friction of the rubber on the inside of the handlebars prevent the rubber, and subsequently the nut that is glued to it, from spinning. As you screw it more, the rubber gets compressed and keeps the bar end in the handle bars.

Check out theLazer light kit that comes with the billet alum bar clamp bracket. The billet bracket replaces the stock plastic cover and bar clamps and comes with holes for the idiot lights and key switch. Its an easy install, looks awsome and allows you to see where you're going at night (shines where you point the bars). Got mine at the sand show for $209. The kit Comes with 2 lights, billet bkt, light mounts and almost everything you need but the four 8mm x 40mm bolts that hold the handle bars . An expensive alternative but well worth it and If you mention "the sand show in Costa Mesa" you may still get the discount.

i have the trail tech bar clamp and x bars workes great 4 mounting the lights and key its all polished alum and fit perfectly p.s you probly took the bolt all the way out then the rubber piece slid down the bar your next step is to throw the ends as far as you can and not worry about the stuck rubber piece
