10 miles on the new Eiger
#1
First run today was great. Only concern was a sound like "ring gear and pinion" wear on an old pickup or car would make. Mostly noticed in the 4th or 5th gear when going at a good clip and then coasting back down. When in "Low Range" I didn't hear it as much. I think some others have heard this "gear" sound and I wonder if it will go away or at least become quite as I put on a few more miles. Man this is going to be a great machine as best I can tell... plenty of power. Smooth. Soooo easy to stear in and out of 4 wheel drive.
Any comments on your new or older Eiger 4x4 manual?

dew,
Check out my past post's, I was asking the same question about a whinning noise I heard on my 03 Eiger manual shift 4x4.. I found that it is coming from the rear end,
From what I'm told by numerous people on here (some I think dont even own a Eiger,)
it is normal, I asked several dealers who said you will hear the rear end, but I never asked if it will quiet down after a while...I got 110 miles on my Eiger, I think it has quieted down some, but i really quit paying attention to it...I do love this bike,,, it seems to grow on me more and more everytime I ride it...
Nailer,,,,,P.S. if you hear any information about the noise,,,let me know,,,I'll do the same........

Nailer,
Could be when the rear end grease is changed it may become quieter. If there is such a thing as changing the rear end grease. If not maybe after all the break in oils are out or changed in the transmission it will help. Is there anything you would change about the machine now that you have a hundred miles or so on it? How do I go to the old messages you had posted about the noise?

dew,,
Nope there isnt grease but there is oil,,,ya gotta use some heavy brand,,Not sure which one but it is in the manual,,
Mine has quieted, but i was told it makes noise because it has strait pinion gears instead if angled.I heard it is for power and reliability purposes...after time when the gears meld together it will quiet some but as of now it dont really bother me anymore after I found that they (Eigers) all do it...
talk to ya in a few,
