Default 86lt250 shaving head/jug

I want to raise the compresion on my lt250r. I am considering having the jug shaved to do so. I have not found anyplace that sells high compression 2 stroke pistons and would rather modify the jug anyway so that I could use a standard piston. Has anyone done this? Heard of anyone doing so? Do you know if the coolant passages would still line up if I shave the jug .040"(I havn't had the head off yet)? Any Idea of how much performance I could gain by raising it from 7.2:1 to around 8:1?

Thanks for any info.

Did you lose any reliability or get any other negative effects from shaving the head?

Im gonna shave the head .020" for now and see what happens. It's only 7.2 to 1 compression now so I should be able to run pump fuel if I don't go to far. I might pick up another used head in the future then I will try .030" and .040" and if I go to far I can shave my new head to whatever worked the best before and leave it that way. I will post my results here.

Fast1, Is the head you shaved the standard head? I pulled mine off today, there isn't much clearance for the piston as it is. Also if I take off .020" the ridge around the combustion chamber will be gone completely. I'm not sure I'm going to do so now.

I went ahead and shaved it .020". I got the same result as fast1. I'm happy with my results, particularly the performance increase in 2nd and 3rd gear. Definitely worth 50$s.

good job! you don't need that ridge as far as i can see, there still should be a little ( about .010) if you only take 020 off.
