that's really kind of overkill and too bad, because what most riders want isn't some 400+ lb pig with a huge engine... most riders want a machine in the 250cc class (two-stroke) that weighs less and handles better than the old 250R... at least IMHO.

Please don't generalize AlaskaYFM, "most riders" is not an accurate statement!
This is merely 'your' opinion.

I myself want a huge HP machine, the bigger the better! I was upset back in '87/'88 when Honda didn't come out with something to compete with the mighty LT500.

I will agree with the fact that it doesn't need to weigh in at 500# +

Make us a lightweight FULL RACE 2 Stroke quad.... There's enough 'sport' models out there!
250R handling or better!!!

Here's a thought, Make a big bore AND a 250 class FULL RACE machine that weighs in the 350# range !!

Wow, sorry guy's..... I've got to watch my fantasies!

HMMM...I could find nothing of interest on the trademark search for black widow, BUT look at this:

Looks like Yamaha has something up their sleeve...

I did see a lot of names for ATV's by Dinli that are in the same family as Black Widow. ????

Duneaddict, I think that my generalization is pretty accurate, just look at how popular the mid-class machines are. Sure, I would love to have a CR500-powered quad-but I don't want a pig of a chassis. If someone built a big-bore machine that was lightweight I would buy it. But, I've been riding for over 12 years. I don't think that most of the general quad riding public could handle a 250R, let alone a quadzilla!!! So this talk of a 700cc two-stroke is just ridiculous!!! I mean, just look at the KFX700!!! haha... 500lbs...

I would rather someone just build a 250 two-stroke with a decent chassis... GasGas has the right idea with their Wild HP machine, but I still feel that it needs some serious refining...

So Yamaha trademarked the YFZ? eeeeeenteresting...

Knowsalotmore, That is very interesting! Yamaha trademarked YFZ for an ATV if I am reading it right.

well, just a FYI, the Banshee is the YFZ350... the Raptor is YFM660R, the Warrior YFM350X... so, this either means that they coming out with another two-stroke quad or... I dunno...

Wouldnt an engine that big (single cylinder) not be able to rev very high? somone made a dirtbike engine like that once upon a time and the red line was like 3000rpms or something. What I want to see is a 340lb quad with a powervalve fuel injected 700 straight 3 in a quad (like a boat or jet ski engine). Would have to be all aluminum to get that weight though, maybe some carbon fiber but noone can afford that.

Yamaha has had great success with their 701cc 2 stroke watercraft motors since 1994. So it doesn't surprise me that they might be doing something similar for their sport ATV. But if I were to guess...since kawi is coming out a belt driven big bore, Yamaha's response might be a taken from their snowmobile technology like the SRX 700. Could ya imagine if it is a triple cyl?
