Building a LT250R
#1
I'm getting quite confused on what parts to interchange. You have the 85-86 parts, then the 87, then the 88-92. I got a 91, well it just gets pretty confusing.
I'm also playing with the idea of putting the TRX250R shocks on the front, get the front up a little higher.
Anyone give me any of the trick set ups for the 91's?

I've also been piecing together a 87 LT250R over the last month or so. There are plenty of good used parts out there. Have you tried Ebay. Many of the parts on Ebay are over priced, but you can find anything within about a week.
The 85-86 Racers were the same. In 87 they rebuilt the Quadracer with a new motor, frame, seat, & suspension. Then after 87 they made a few changes with the main one being to the motor. The 88+ LT250R's have a power valve, which is pretty cool. Other then that many parts many of the parts are interchangable between all years, including plastic, brakes, radiator, steering stem. The best way to check is go to one of the web sites that have the part list (micro) on there site. One that I know of is www.ronnies.com They will have all the part numbers listed so you can match up different years.
Good luck

Well heres what I got. My brother who lives up in ohio found a basicly stock 91 LT250. It has stock wheels but needs new tires. The pipe was off of it but the guy had a new FMF pipe with silencer he gave with the deal.
Basicly my brother said it was all stock and needed a set of axle bearings and a pivot pinn kit put in the swing arm. He said it wasn't real bad but didn't look like it would last long. It also has a Durablue axle on it. Not sure if it's a +2 or stock dementions.
The rear shock was missing the rezzie, but the guy had that too.
Now when he got it home he felt the compression was low, no problem, figured it would need a top end. When taking the top end off he found the piston and rings were junk and thier was alot of water down buy the crank. The water seems to be from a re-used or broken base gasket, found alot of silicone on the base gasket. He first thought the crank may have trouble but after a crank person looked at it he said the suzuki's were like that. Little extra side to side play with the rod, but said it looked good to them.
I sent him the parts to repair the swing arm and top end. The top end appears to be stock porting with a .040" over piston in it. I sent him a .060" wiesco and asked him to mill the head about .020"
The front shocks came into play as he noticed the front end being a little lower and knows I hate that feeling about quads. So he tried a set of 250R shocks and said they work perfect.
But I haven't seen this thing yet and hope to get most of this done before I ship it. My wife would die if I had to tear it down when I got it so I'm having him do most of it so it isn't so obviouse.
Was just wondering if yall had any trick set ups that I could keep my eye out for while going threw this thing.

It sounds like you found about half the problems I had with my 87 LT250R. It's all part of the fun, right. Please post any info you have on the TRX250R shocks on your quadracer, because there are a ton of good used TRX250R shocks out there. I'm also tring to keep most of my upgrades under the wifes radar!!!!!

From what he has told me is that he took the shocks off a 88 TRX and they bolted rite up. He said it raised the front end by 1.5". This realy doesn't bother me as I wiegh 230 pounds, soooo.....
My first thoughts on getting it was to do tires and suspention and run it in the winter series. But now I just want to fix the odds and ends and get it here.
Realy can't tell you much untill it gets here.
